Museum of the History of the City of Kurgan
About museum
The Museum of the History of the City was opened in May 2006. It is located in a merchant's mansion that belonged to merchant Semyon Ivanovich Berezin and then to his son Fyodor. After their deaths the house was purchased by the city to house the district treasury. Afterwards the building was remodeled and from 1927 to 1980 housed the regional archives. In 1987 the house was transferred to the Kurgan Regional Museum of Local Lore. The restoration of the building took more than 20 years. The estate is an architectural monument of the 19th century and is the only stone urban-type estate in the Trans-Urals. The museum's exhibition shows the history of Kurgan from the founding of the Tsarevo Gorodishche sloboda up to 1917. The museum offers guided tours, lectures, talks, concerts, and meetings with interesting people. Walking and bus tours around the city are also available.
