About museum
In the center of the stanitsa on the trading street opposite the Znamenskaya Church, which was consecrated in 1817, stands a mansion built in 1896 that belonged to the merchant F. K. Nikitin. It is a unique monument of Cossack architecture and serves as a guardian of the distinctive traditions of the Don Cossacks. Here is the Museum of the History of the Don Cossacks, which features 6 halls with permanent exhibitions: 'History and Culture of the Middle Don', 'Cossack Chamber', the Hall of Military Glory, an exhibition hall, the V. M. Shukshin cabin hall and the 'Merchant's Drawing Room'. The museum displays paintings by local and Volgograd artists, and annual exhibitions of decorative and applied arts are held here. Visitors can learn about the history and culture of the Don Cossacks, trace the history of the Great Patriotic War and learn about the filming of the movie based on M. A. Sholokhov's novel 'They Fought for Their Country'.
