Seversk City Museum
About museum
Seversk City Museum of Tomsk Oblast is the largest of the museums in atomic towns. Opened in 1987, it houses more than 130,000 inventory items, three quarters of which are part of the state section of the Museum Fund of the Russian Federation. The museum's holdings comprise collections of items related to the history and culture of Seversk and Tomsk.
Currently, the museum's collections include archaeological and ethnographic collections; a collection of material and written sources; decorative and applied arts; a valuable collection of orders and medals; coins, monetary signs, and badges — this is by no means a complete list of materials available to researchers, historians, staff of educational and cultural institutions, history enthusiasts, and museum visitors.
Since the mid-1990s the museum has been developing a system of continuous education, 'Museum and Children', aimed at preschool children and students of general education schools. Offered programs are constantly updated according to demand. Today the continuous museum education system includes 18 museum programs covering more than 100 lecture topics, off-site excursions, and museum festivals. Visitors can view the permanent historical and local-history exhibitions 'Along the River of Time' and 'Seversk. 65 Years of History'. In addition to the permanent exhibitions, visitors can see regularly updated traveling exhibitions on various topics.
