V.P. Engelhardt Astronomical Observatory Museum
About museum
In 2021, a Museum was established within the Museums Directorate of Kazan Federal University, based on the V.P. Engelhardt Astronomical Observatory of the Institute of Physics of KFU. It all began in 1897, when a well-known astronomer and public figure donated the unique astronomical equipment of his private observatory in Dresden to Kazan Imperial University. The astronomer and professor D. I. Dubyago played a major role in the creation and development of the observatory. On September 21, 1901, the ceremonial opening of the university's suburban Astronomical Observatory took place, and in 1903 it was named after V. P. Engelhardt. In 2013, the KFU Planetarium was opened on the observatory grounds with the participation of the President of the Republic of Tatarstan. Seven structures of the Astronomical Observatory were entered into the state register of immovable monuments of urban planning and architecture of the Republic of Tatarstan. The Museum offers tours, popular science lectures, museum lessons, and master classes. Night tours are also possible.
