About museum
The history of the museum is closely tied to the history of the university. It was founded in 1973 after the first expeditionary work, which brought the first archaeological collection. Since then ethnographic collections have been added, and the archaeological collection now numbers over 800,000 items. The ethnography collection also consists of 800 items dated to the late 19th and early 20th centuries. The museum has a large research archive and library. The museum's exhibition is compact but fairly substantial. It consists of archaeological artifacts and ethnographic materials representing various cultural communities. The museum is used for teaching archaeology, ethnology and museum studies, as well as for cultural outreach and educational work. Guided tours are held for students, schoolchildren and city visitors.
