In 1969 Afanasy Nikitich Antipin, an Honored Teacher of the RSFSR, who since 1959 had worked at the Institute for the Improvement of Teachers as head of the pedagogy office, was appointed director of the institution. In 1970, at A.N. Antipin's initiative, the Museum of Public Education of the Irkutsk Region was established to revive local pedagogical history and to preserve for posterity everything that teaching was in the past and is today. At present the museum houses more than five thousand exhibits and documents. Since 2004 Lev Mikhailovich Dameshek has served as rector of the Regional State Autonomous Educational Institution of Additional Professional Education "Irkutsk Institute for Advanced Training of Education Workers" (OGAOU DPO IIPKRO). The founder is the Ministry of Education of the Irkutsk Region.
