Momsky Local History Museum
About museum
In 1987, at the initiative of the public, the Momsky Local History Museum was opened; it was originally located in the building of the Momskaya St. Nicholas Church (1851), and in 2000 it was transferred to the Yakutsk Diocese. Currently it is situated together with the district library in a wooden building. The museum's activities encompass exhibitions and research, guided tours and lectures, scientific collection management, and planning. The exhibition is dedicated to the nature, history and ethnography of the region. The nature section presents the district's geographic characteristics, fauna and flora, as well as a schematic of vertical zonation. The history and ethnography section covers the establishment of the district, culture, healthcare, agricultural production, state farms (sovkhozes) and the Momsky National Park ('Aan Aylga'), where 12 endangered plant species have been recorded. A distinctive feature of the district (ulus) is the Ulakhan Taryn naled, as well as Victory Peak, which attracts mountaineers. The museum holdings consist of 968 items in the main collection and 140 items in the scientific auxiliary collection.
