Oryol Local History Museum
About museum
The municipal cultural and local history institution 'Oryol Local History Museum' is located on the second floor of a merchant mansion that is part of an estate-and-park complex. A reception was once held there for Alexander I and Alexander II, who traveled with V. A. Zhukovsky and K. I. Arsenyev. The museum now consists of four halls: the '19th Century Hall', the 'History Hall', the 'Hall of Military Glory' and the 'Exhibition Hall'. The first hall displays furniture from the 18th and 19th centuries, bronze and Swiss clocks, writing instruments, antique tableware and clerical garments. The 'History Hall' introduces visitors to the district's 20th-century history and its progress in healthcare, education, culture, industry and agriculture. The 'Hall of Military Glory' presents monuments to local compatriots, while thematic and solo exhibitions are held in the 'Exhibition Hall'. The 'Peasant Life' department also offers much of interest, housing household items of peasants from the 20th century.
