\r\nThe history of the Mikhaylovsky Local History Museum began on November 11, 1966, when, by decision of the executive committee of the City Council, it was decided to establish the museum. On a voluntary basis, Popov Maksim Ivanovich, a lawyer of the Mikhaylovsk legal consultancy, was appointed its head. Over ten years of operation the museum was supplemented with materials and exhibits, and in 1977 a building at 82 Mira Street was allocated for its expansion; the building was constructed in 1905 and underwent a major renovation. The museum features exhibition halls, a library, and a storage depository. It collects, studies, and exhibits historical sources documenting the cultural, social, political, and environmental history of the region and the spiritual condition of society. Today the museum is the center of the cultural and historical life of the town and the region.
