Mednoye Memorial Complex
About museum
Mednoye Memorial Complex is located on the territory of former NKVD departmental dachas 25 km northwest of the city of Tver along the Moscow — St. Petersburg highway. The basis for its creation was the Resolution of the Government of the Russian Federation No. 1247 of October 19, 1996. The Memorial was opened on September 2, 2000, and in 2012 it was incorporated into the State Central Museum of Contemporary History of Russia. On this territory there are mass graves of victims of political repression — Soviet and Polish citizens. This is confirmed by exhumation work, drilling results, testimony of the former head of the NKVD Administration for the Kalinin Region, and other materials. More than 5,000 Soviet and more than 6,000 Polish citizens who died as a result of political repression are buried here. The Memorial grounds feature outdoor exhibition-installations; a museum and information center operates on site, and guided tours are conducted.
