Marks Local History Museum
About museum
In 1987, a public museum of K. Marx and F. Engels was opened in the town of Marks, and in April 1991 it was granted the status of Marks Local History Museum and became a branch of the Saratov Regional Museum of Local History. Housed in a building constructed at the beginning of the 20th century, it contains more than 6,000 inventory items, including an ethnographic collection representing the occupations, trades, crafts and everyday life of Ekaterinenstadt (Baronsk). The museum exhibits carpentry, joinery and blacksmithing tools, as well as items reflecting the dramatic history of the deportation of the Volga Germans and of the town during the Great Patriotic War. There is a permanent exhibition 'Flora and Fauna of the Marks District', and thematic and art exhibitions, master classes, subscription (regular) classes and many other events are held. Annual attendance is about 15–16 thousand people, making it one of the town's most attractive cultural, educational and leisure centers.
