Kurgan Regional Art Museum named after German Alekseevich Travnikov was opened on August 14, 1982. It houses more than 10,000 works of painting, graphic arts, sculpture, decorative and applied arts, icon painting, manuscripts and early printed books. One of the largest watercolor collections in Russia, numbering over 4,000 works, occupies a special place. The museum also displays works by authors from the former Soviet republics, as well as exhibits from the 18th to the early 20th century. The museum hosts a variety of events: All-Russian watercolor exhibitions, watercolor art festivals, master classes for children and adults, quests, theatrical activities, the 'Night of Museums' and the 'Night of Arts' events. The museum also serves as a platform for implementing the creative ideas of young people and for joint events with musicians and performers, the regional philharmonic, theaters and libraries. The museum successfully runs a children's art studio for little ones called 'Rodnichok'.
