Kumukh Historical and Local Lore Museum

About museum

In the Kumukh district there is a historical and local lore museum opened in 1996 and serving as a branch of the National Museum of Dagestan named after A. Taho-Godi. The museum displays exhibits that tell about the history of the settlement of Kumukh and the Laksky district, as well as about the heroic struggle of the highlanders against foreign invaders in the 14th century. In addition, it features weapons of the medieval warrior, the jewelry art of Lak craftsmen, an ethnographic collection, items of handicraft production, male and female costume ensembles of the Laks, as well as items belonging to Hero of the Soviet Union Musa Manarov, which are exhibited in the House of the Pilot-Cosmonaut. The museum contains more than 1,600 exhibits.
