The museum exhibitions present valuable works of art and architecture of the Kostroma region. The museum also holds educational events, lectures, concerts, theatrical performances and master classes. Visitors can see an exhibition that introduces the history and culture of the Kostroma region.
The Kostroma State Historical-Architectural and Art Museum-Reserve was established on August 10, 2005 by reorganizing two previously existing state cultural institutions. Today it is one of the largest museum complexes in the Central Federal District. The museum-reserve includes five buildings in the historic part of the city. The tour department is located in the Fire Tower, and the Guardhouse houses an arms exhibition. The Romanovsky Museum displays works by well-known artists, and the Noble Assembly features an exhibition about the visit of Emperor Nicholas II. The Picture Gallery hosts contemporary art exhibitions.
