About museum
The Central Museum of Railway Transport of Russia is one of the world’s oldest scientific and technical museums, preserving more than a 200-year tradition of the Russian engineering school. Currently its collections hold 71,000 exhibits, many of which were produced more than 150 years ago and have historical and cultural value. For example, over 30 unique exhibits represent Russia’s participation in the 1900 World's Industrial Exhibition in Paris, where they were awarded gold medals. The museum also houses a collection of bridge models, including urban bridges, which is unmatched in scientific and cultural significance. The museum building was constructed in 1902 to a design by Petr Kupinsky. All exhibits are arranged by topic in chronological order, beginning with the first third of the 19th century. They belonged to scientists, engineers, builders, architects and organizations involved in the construction of roads, bridges and other structures in Russia.
