Kislovodsk Historical and Local History Museum 'Fortress'
About museum
On May 9, 1965 the 'Fortress' Museum was opened; it is a people's museum located in the buildings of the Kislovodsk Fortress — a federal monument of history and architecture. Notable figures stayed here, for example the architect S. I. Upton and A. S. Pushkin in 1820. During the Great Patriotic War an evacuation hospital was located here, and during World War I a hospital for the lower ranks of the Caucasus Military District. The museum offers visitors several collections: archaeological, ethnographic, and Kislovodsk porcelain. You can also learn about the history of the peoples of the North Caucasus, studies of the mineral springs, the development of the Kislovodsk resort, and the role of the Cossacks in its formation. There is also the F. A. Tsander Museum of the History of Cosmonautics, as well as an open-air lapidary. Great attention is paid to Kislovodsk as the largest hospital base during the Great Patriotic War. All this has made the 'Fortress' Museum one of the most visited and interesting places in Kislovodsk.
