Kirish Local History Museum
About museum
Kirish Local History Museum was opened on December 28, 1972, on the eve of the 50th anniversary of the USSR. The first exhibition featured works by Leningrad graphic artist Boris Raditsky and architect Viktor Grinko. The museum displays examples of Zakhozhskoye lace, materials on the history of the craft and its well-known masters. The military section contains a large collection of trophy items found at the site of the former German bridgehead. In this location the settlement of Kirishi was rebuilt in the early 1960s; it became a town in 1965. Among the trophy items is a bell pierced by shells from one of the district's churches destroyed during the Great Patriotic War (World War II). The museum offers visitors a unique opportunity to learn about the culture and history of Kirishi.
