Kimry Local History Museum
About museum
In 1918 a local history museum was established in Kimry by the cooperative organization 'Kreditsouz'. It began assembling a unique collection of footwear and materials on the history of shoe manufacturing. In 1939 the museum moved to a new building. In 1977 it became a branch of the Tver State United Museum. In 1990 a permanent exhibition department was opened in the museum. In 2017 a new interactive exhibition 'The Capital of the Boot Kingdom' was opened. Visitors can walk along the streets of the old village of Kimry, see architectural sites, bargain at the market, and visit a Kimry shoemaker and a merchant. The museum also houses a rich collection of footwear from the 18th–20th centuries. The museum hosts art and themed exhibitions from Moscow, Tver and other cities of Russia.
