Historical site «Antiquity. Roman fortress Castrum, 1st–3rd centuries AD»
About museum
The Romans built military forts throughout the empire to guard its borders. Civilian settlements grew up around them, inhabited by traders, artisans, legionary families and veterans. Some of these later developed into modern European towns. Legions were deployed to Crimea and Sevastopol to protect the Chersonesos state. The Fedyukhiny Heights were guarded by Roman watch-towers. On their site a fortress, Castrum, has been reconstructed, resembling those built in that era. Here you can learn about features of Roman fort-building, the everyday life and armament of legionaries, and attend gladiator performances. Musical concerts, sports shows and competitions, as well as a School for Young Gladiators, are held inside the fortress.
