About museum
In 1912 the building of the ulus local history museum named after G.V. Ksenofontov was built in Kerdem, in which from August 1916 to February 1917 Grigory Konstantinovich Ordzhonikidze (Sergo) lived and worked. In 1962 the museum was transformed into the House-Museum of Sergo Ordzhonikidze, and in 1975 the building was placed under state protection as a monument of republican significance. In 1991 it was converted into a museum of the history of the coach stations along the Lena River as a section of the ulus local history museum, and in 1993 it received the name of G.V. Ksenofontov, a famous native of Khangalassky ulus who authored several fundamental works on the origin of the Yakuts. In 2007 the museum underwent a re-exposition dedicated to the town's anniversary and to the 375th anniversary of Yakutia's accession to Russia. In 2014 a new two-storey museum building was constructed, where work on creating a new exhibition is currently ongoing.
