About museum
The Museum of the History of the GULAG invites visitors to immerse themselves in the tragic history of mass repressions in the USSR. Here you can explore materials from state and family archives, read memoirs of participants, and view objects found at former camp sites. The permanent exhibition shows the stages of the formation of the punitive system in 1918–1956, while temporary exhibitions allow for a more detailed examination of individual episodes of history. The museum participates in educational programs, publishes materials, and organizes cultural events to help people understand the complexity of the events and truly appreciate the value of human life.
