Gorodets Local History Museum is one of the oldest museums in the Nizhny Novgorod region, opened almost immediately after the Revolution during a difficult turning point in history. At first the exhibition was housed in the People’s House, but in 1920 the museum was moved to the mansion of the merchant I. P. Oblaev. Since then it has gained a reputation as a careful guardian of the past, and every exhibit contains a grain of its era. It features unique collections of scientific and artistic significance for all of Russia. The museum offers a variety of exhibitions, including "The Market Buzzes Beneath the Hill...", "Old Believers", "Orthodoxy", "Contemporary Arts and Crafts", "Crafts of the 19th - early 20th centuries", "Merchants".
Here you can see household items, devices and tools of various trades, paintings, handicrafts, military weapons and much more. The museum hosts various events dedicated to the region's history. Both children and adults take part in them.
