About museum

In the village of Srostki, in the Nizovki area, on the bank of the Katun River stands the house where V. M. Shukshin spent his childhood years. It houses the exhibition "Distant Winter Evenings", dedicated to the 1940s–1950s period of the 20th century, based on the biographical cycle of the writer's stories and the recollections of his sister and childhood friends. This house belonged to Pavel Nikolaevich Kuksin, V. M. Shukshin's stepfather, and the family lived in it from 1941 to 1957. In 1942 P. N. Kuksin was killed in the war.
