The Church of the Deposition of the Robe of the Most Holy Theotokos is a notable site on Cathedral Square. It was founded in the 15th century and named in honor of the Feast of the Deposition of the Robe of the Most Holy Theotokos. For several centuries it was part of the metropolitan court and served as the private church for the metropolitans and patriarchs of Russia. The church features an iconostasis and wall paintings that form a unified artistic ensemble. The church gallery houses a permanent exhibition of Russian wooden sculpture.
