M. N. Romanov Memorial Center
About museum
The A. S. Pushkin Cherdyn Local History Museum presents to visitors its branch — the M. N. Romanov Memorial Center, opened on September 16, 2017. The main exhibition is dedicated to the history of the imprisonment and veneration of Mikhail Nikitich Romanov. The center also has a small hall for various events and exhibitions. Every year the center holds days of remembrance for M. N. Romanov. Recall that in 1601 Boris Godunov sent five sons of Nikita Romanov to Nyrob, and one of them was confined in an earthen pit where he remained for several months until his associates were convicted. In 1913 a public garden was laid out around the chapel that contains the pit, and an almshouse was built behind it. Thus the former almshouse became the M. N. Romanov Memorial Center, whose main exhibit is a set of three-pood shackles. Visitors can descend into the pit in which M. N. Romanov was confined in 1601.
