V. I. Povetkin Center for Musical Antiquities
About museum
Vladimir Ivanovich Povetkin founded the Center for Musical Antiquities in 1990 after beginning work in the mid-1970s on reconstructing ancient musical instruments in Veliky Novgorod. The Center offers the opportunity to study the restoration of the shapes and sounds of ancient musical instruments found by archaeologists, and also runs a cultural and educational program that includes exhibitions, lecture-concerts, and consultations on traditional folk culture. Thanks to the method for restoring archaeological musical instruments developed by Vladimir Ivanovich Povetkin and his original research program, musical archaeology has become a promising field in contemporary Russian archaeology.
