About museum
Today Borodino Field is a place of remembrance where numerous tourists and pilgrims come to honor the memory of the heroes of the Patriotic War of 1812.
The Borodino Field Museum-Reserve is the oldest battlefield museum in the world, founded in 1839 by decree of Emperor Nicholas I on the site of the 1812 Battle of Borodino. On an area of 110 sq. km the Russian and French armies conducted military operations. Near the monument honoring the heroes of the battle a stone watch-house was erected, in which two veterans of the Patriotic War of 1812 were accommodated. The Borodino Field contains commemorative sites: churches, artillery fortifications, graves of battle participants, 33 monuments and much more. The Spaso-Borodinsky Monastery, founded by Margarita Tuchkova on the site of her husband's death, holds a special place in history. Today Borodino Field is a place of remembrance where pilgrims come to pay tribute to the heroes of the Patriotic War of 1812.
