N. N. Strakhov Library‑Museum
About museum
On December 23, 2009, the library-museum of Nikolai Nikolaevich Strakhov (1828–1896), an outstanding native of Belgorod, literary critic, scholar, publisher and translator, was opened at Belgorod State University. It is located in the building of the former male classical gymnasium of His Royal Highness the Duke of Edinburgh, opposite the Preobrazhensky Cathedral. In 2017, following a refurbishment that recreated a fragment of the thinker’s last St. Petersburg apartment, the library-museum acquired its present-day appearance. The museum’s exhibition features more than 600 documents, including editions published during the author’s lifetime and rare books from the scholar’s personal library, reprint copies of his works, translations, letters, period-style furniture, portraits, photographs, copies of orders and original household items that recreate the atmosphere of the 19th century.
