It also offers programs for people with disabilities. The museum was opened on April 1, 1932; until 1987 it was located in Kuibyshev Park. The museum was then closed during the Great Patriotic War. In 1954–1957 it became a regional museum, expanded its staff, added unique exhibits and made its displays more spectacular. Today the museum promotes local history, conducts numerous tours and exhibitions, and attracts new visitors. More than 30,000 visitors a year visit the museum, which gives over 700 tours, hosts a large number of events and at least 35 exhibitions. It is also responsible for organizing city events dedicated to the Days of Military Glory, book presentations and neighborhood celebrations. The museum works with schools and kindergartens and provides programs for people with disabilities. It attracts the attention of many people and helps them gain knowledge.
