About museum
In 1995 the Balakhtinsky District Local History Museum was opened, receiving the status of a public institution. In 2013 the museum moved to 48 Lenin Street and in 2014 it was ceremonially reopened. In December of the same year the museum was registered and obtained legal entity status. It houses permanent exhibitions: "Stories from Grandmother's Chests", "Balakhta's Merchant Class", "Balakhta Clay", "Front and Home Front", "My Grandmother's Parlor", "Sites Associated with Astafyev in the Balakhta District", "Picture Gallery", "The Ancient Past of the Territory", "Wealths of the Territory's Underground Storerooms". The museum's mission is to present the district's history in the context of the country's history and to evaluate each citizen's contribution to its development. To this end, stationary and traveling exhibitions, master classes, public campaigns and events are held, and materials that replenish the museum collections are acquired.
