Balakhtinsky Local History Museum

About museum

In 1995 the Balakhtinsky District Local History Museum was opened as a public museum. In 2013 the museum moved to 48 Lenin Street and in 2014 it was ceremonially reopened. In December of the same year the museum was registered and obtained the status of a legal entity. It houses permanent exhibitions: "Stories from Grandma's Chests", "Balakhta's Merchant Class", "Balakhta Clay", "Front and Home Front", "My Grandmother's Chamber", "Sites Associated with Astafyev in the Balakhta District", "Art Gallery", "The Territory's Earliest Past", "Riches of the Territory's Underground Storerooms". The museum's aim is to present the history of the district within the broader context of the country's history and to recognize each citizen's contribution to its development. To this end it holds permanent and traveling exhibitions, master classes, mass events and activities, and acquires materials to replenish its collections.
