Anapa Archaeological Museum
About museum
In 1977 the Council of Ministers of the RSFSR established the Anapa Archaeological Museum — a branch of the Krasnodar State Historical and Archaeological Museum-Reserve named after E.D. Felitsyn. It represents a unique heritage of Greek civilization, which laid the foundations of modern European culture. This monument is located in the center of the Anapa resort and is visited by more than 150,000 Russian and foreign guests each year. The museum includes a protected area of 1.6 hectares, of which 0.7 ha have been investigated and are on display, such as residential quarters, roads, wells, drains, winemaking complexes and defensive structures. In two pre-revolutionary buildings architectural details, funerary sculpture monuments and sarcophagi are exhibited. One can also learn about the history of the Turkish fortress and the resort, the history of viticulture and winemaking in the region, as well as natural attractions. The museum also houses the memorial hall of the nun Mother Maria (E. Yu. Kuzmina-Karavaeva).
