Anapa Archaeological Museum
About museum
In 1977 the Council of Ministers of the RSFSR established the Anapa Archaeological Museum — a branch of the Krasnodar State Historical and Archaeological Museum-Reserve named after E. D. Felitsyn. It represents a unique legacy of Greek civilization, which laid the foundations of modern European culture. This monument is located in the center of the Anapa resort and is visited by more than 150,000 Russian and foreign guests each year. The museum includes a protected area of 1.6 hectares, of which 0.7 ha have been excavated and are exhibited, such as residential quarters, roads, wells, drains, winemaking complexes and defensive structures. Architectural details, funerary sculptures and sarcophagi are displayed in two pre-revolutionary buildings. Visitors can also learn about the history of the Turkish fortress and the resort, the history of the region's viticulture and winemaking, as well as its natural attractions. The museum also houses a memorial room of the nun Mother Maria (E. Yu. Kuzmina-Karavaeva).
