Afanasyevsky Local History Museum

About museum

In the village of Voznesenskoye in the Verkhnetoyemsky District of Arkhangelsk Oblast, at the 90th kilometer of the Ust-Vaga–Yadriha road, is the Afanasyevsky Local History Museum. It was opened on November 26, 1989, at the initiative of the well-known local historian and journalist Alexander Alexandrovich Tungusov and with the active support of Vladimir Vasilyevich Lagunov, chairman of the Lenin collective farm, and local party and Komsomol organizations. The museum's original name was 'Museum of the Lenin Collective Farm.' In 1994 it was converted from a collective-farm museum into a municipal museum, and in 2001 it became a structural subdivision of the municipal cultural institution 'Verkhnetoyemsky Local History Museum.' The museum is located in a building built in 1916 by a prosperous local peasant, Sintsov, which previously housed the Afanasyevskaya school. It consists of 10 halls and a pavilion, which display exhibition complexes devoted to the everyday life of local peasants in the late 19th and early 20th centuries.
