We are opening the new year 2026 with a joint exhibition project 'Old Years. Sketches of Estate Life and Everyday Life' from the collections of the Nizhny Novgorod State Historical and Architectural Museum-Reserve (NGIAMZ).
The staff of the Nizhny Novgorod museum are not just colleagues but also good friends, so it is important and interesting for us to start with such an exhibition.
On January 20 we invite you not only to immerse yourself in the world of estate life in Russia of the 19th–early 20th centuries, but also to meet the creators of the exhibition.
The exhibition, whose title refers to the St. Petersburg magazine 'Old Years', published in the early 20th century and devoted to art and antiquity, aims to show not only the everyday life and way of living in landed estates, but also to reflect the complex socio-economic processes that took place in society in the period after the abolition of serfdom.
The core of the exhibition is the collection of Vyacheslav Khurtin, head of the NGIAMZ branch 'Technical Museum', an honorary citizen of Nizhny Novgorod and an enthusiast who has devoted his life to restoring monuments of science and technology from the 18th–20th centuries. Almost 70 items, carefully collected and restored by V. Khurtin, will allow visitors to come into contact with the material culture of a bygone era.
The exhibition is a kind of 'time machine' that transports the viewer to the world of the estate, where tradition and innovation, luxury and simplicity were intertwined, and the measured rhythm of rural life coexisted with progressive trends from Europe.
