A joint project with the P. P. Semenov-Tyan-Shansky Museum-Estate and the Lipetsk Historical and Cultural Museum.
Traveling exhibition of original ceramics based on the traditional Romanov toy.
The Romanov toy is a Russian folk craft of making clay whistle-toys that developed near the village of Romanovo in what is now the Lipetsk Region. The oldest found examples of the toy date back to the 17th century. The exhibition "Two Peters" tells the story of two outstanding figures – the reforming emperor Peter I and the scientist, statesman and public figure Pyotr Petrovich Semenov-Tyan-Shansky.
The image of each Peter has for years inspired the folk masters of Romanov toy-making: Elena Smoleyevskaya, Olga Volokitina and Anastasia Korolenko. The exhibition features more than 39 works (themes). Some of them are accompanied by QR codes which, when scanned, allow visitors to watch video tales about Peter I's presence in the Lipetsk region, written by Elena Gennadyevna Smoleyevskaya based on the corresponding legends, or to listen to radio podcasts that voice the legends of the Semenov-Tyan-Shansky family on the subjects presented at the exhibition.
