Exhibition of Decorative and Applied Arts “Living Craft”
About exhibition
Throughout history, people have sought to adorn their everyday lives with various decorative and applied objects, thereby shaping the culture of whole peoples. In this respect the Altai region is truly unique, because it is here that Altai and Slavic cultures meet. An excellent demonstration of this is the decorative and applied arts exhibition permanently held at the V.V. Tikhonov Art Gallery. Here you can get a closer look at the distinctive features of the decorative and applied arts of the peoples living in the Altai. The exhibition presents items made of wood, leather, textiles, clay, birch bark, faience and many other materials, all produced using a variety of traditional techniques. It is also worth noting that the exhibition serves as the basis for the creation of the Center of Traditional Culture, Crafts and Folklore “Ethnographic Mosaic”, aimed at preserving the traditional culture of the peoples living in the Altai.
