Amphibious Assaults. Baltic Coast. 1941-1945
About exhibition
'Amphibious Assaults. Baltic Coast. 1941-1945' is a new exhibition project of the Museum of the World Ocean, which will be presented to residents and guests of the region on the eve of the 80th anniversary of the Victory in the Great Patriotic War. It will be located on two floors of the exhibition pavilion of the museum's Naval Center and on its open grounds, near the submarine B-413. The exhibition will tell little-known episodes of joint actions by army and navy units at the opening and closing stages of the Great Patriotic War – the amphibious landings at Peterhof by Alexandria Park in October 1941 and on the Frische Nehrung spit in East Prussia (now the Baltiyskaya Spit, Kaliningrad Oblast) in April 1945. The project's concept is to reflect the historical connection between events in the struggle against the enemy on different shores of the Baltic, the heroism of the participants in the amphibious landings, the preservation of combat traditions and generational continuity. The work on the exhibition is being carried out jointly with the State Museum-Reserve 'Peterhof'. The exhibition's concept is built on a combination of unique exhibits: personal belongings of the commanders Admiral Vladimir Tributs and Colonel-General Kuzma Galitsky, who directly commanded the army and navy forces during the assault on the spit, awards, documents, as well as examples of weaponry, models of boats and landing craft. An important place in the exhibition space will be occupied by the works of two photojournalists who participated in the events – Leonid Korovin and Arkady Shaikhet. Separate sections will present the professional training of Russian marines, their modern equipment and armament. A significant place in the exposition will be taken by a painting by Kaliningrad artist Evgeny Mashkovsky – 'Landing of the Western Landing on the Frische Nehrung Spit, 26 April 1945' (working title). A multimedia installation 'Storming the Frische Nehrung Spit' is being specially created for the exhibition; in a contemporary graphic form it will tell the story of the operation and its main participants. The exhibition at the Museum of the World Ocean will open with a scientific and practical conference 'War at Sea. Baltic Coast' featuring leading military historians, representatives of museums, military educational institutions and fleets.
