About museum
On May 4, 1990, the long-awaited opening of the museum took place in the Karasuk district, headed by Antonida Stepanovna Akhilova. Since then the museum's collection has grown steadily. Today the museum's holdings consist of 10,000 primary items and 3,000 scientific-support items. The museum is especially proud of its numismatics collection, including precious kopeks from the pre-Petrine period. The museum also represents various peoples of Russia, Ukraine, Germany and Kazakhstan. Permanent exhibitions are dedicated to archaeology, paleontology, ethnography, the fauna of the Karasuk steppes, a peasant hut, the life of a German family, the history of Orthodoxy in the Karasuk district, the history of money, and much more. All this makes the Karasuk Museum one of the most interesting and visited museums in the region.
