Vladimir-Suzdal Museum-Reserve
About museum
Thousands of tourists from different countries visit the Vladimir Museum-Reserve to see the unique monuments of Ancient Rus' architecture. In 1998, by decree of the President of the Russian Federation, it was included in the register of particularly valuable cultural properties. Some of these are on the UNESCO List. Vladimir was founded in the 10th century by the Kievan prince Vladimir Svyatoslavich on the banks of the Klyazma River. In the 12th century it became the capital of the Vladimir-Suzdal principality and an important settlement of North-Eastern Rus'. At that time Vladimir's architecture was the most advanced, and the city was a princely seat. The white-stone Assumption Cathedral, the Golden Gates, monasteries and churches — these are what the princes of Vladimir built in the 12th century. But all this ended after the Tatar-Mongol invasion.
