About museum
The Vachsky Local History Museum is located in the building of the district House of Culture named after Soldatov and began operating on November 4, 1987. The first director was Vladimir Alekseevich Vorobyov, who did much to found and develop it. In 1996 the museum was granted the status of a "People's Museum", and in 2006 it became a legal entity. In 1999 the museum acquired a modern appearance. It presents the history of the development of the urban-type settlement of Vacha and its surroundings, as well as display cases and panels dedicated to the district's archaeology and peasant life. The second hall is devoted to Military Glory and features an interesting exhibition created in 2000–2005. It contains photographs of 11 Heroes of the Soviet Union and female participants of the Great Patriotic War. The museum also includes a corner honoring children evacuated from besieged Leningrad who were sheltered in the Vacha area in 1942. The Vacha museum regularly hosts museum events and temporary exhibitions.
