The Uglich Museum was opened on June 3, 1892, in the Uglich Kremlin, on the territory of an architectural monument dating from the 15th to the 19th centuries. In 2015 a monument to Dmitry, the tsarevich who was killed during the Time of Troubles, was unveiled. The Church of Dmitry houses a collection of items related to his death and canonization. In the halls of the chambers of the palace of the Uglich princes you can learn about the history of Uglich from its foundation up to the 18th century. The Spaso-Preobrazhensky (Transfiguration) Cathedral features distinctive wall paintings, carved iconostases, and a collection of 18th-century icons. In the Bogoyavlensky (Epiphany) Cathedral you can see the exhibition 'Posad Residents — Townspeople. The History of Uglich in Faces,' as well as images of Uglich saints. In the summer season concerts and festivals are organized here, along with performances by the ensemble 'Kovcheg.' In the City Duma building you can visit the department 'Forgotten Art: Object and Masterpiece' and view temporary exhibitions. The gallery 'Under the Blessed Protection' presents works by the artist hegumen Rafail (Simakov) and items of decorative and applied arts.
