Spassk Historical and Archaeological Museum named after G.K. Wagner
About museum
In March 1918 a museum was established in the town of Spassk under the direction of the local department of public education. The main purpose of the museum was to protect former noble estates, works of art and antiquities, and to preserve and study the archaeological monument of world significance - the Old Ryazan settlement. During its existence the museum was closed and reopened several times, moving from one building to another. In 1982 the museum moved into the two-storey mansion of the Morozov merchants, where it remains to this day. Since 1998 the museum has borne the name of Georgy Karlovich Wagner - a native of Spassk. The museum's exhibition highlights the history, everyday life and culture of the native region from ancient times to the mid-20th century; you can also see various representatives of the fauna of the Oksky State Nature Reserve, and the interior of merchant and petty-bourgeois life of the late 19th - early 20th centuries.
