Rzhev Branch of the Victory Museum
About museum
On July 3, 2015, a branch of the Victory Museum — "Kalinin Front. August 1943" — was opened in the village of Khoroshevo in the Rzhevsky district. The museum was founded by the Russian Military-Historical Society in a wooden house near Rzhev where the Supreme Commander-in-Chief I. V. Stalin spent the night of August 4–5, 1943. The museum's exhibition includes a historical interior of the Great Patriotic War, military documents, photographic materials, and personal belongings of soldiers and officers. In the museum yard there are busts of I. V. Stalin, A. I. Eremenko and 12 Heroes of the Soviet Union who were natives of the Rzhevsky district. Also located here is the largest monument to a Red Army soldier — a bronze figure of a fighter weighing 80 tons and standing 25 meters tall. The museum features an interactive exhibition devoted to the history of the battles on the Rzhev–Vyazma front, as well as modern multimedia and acoustic equipment that allows visitors to immerse themselves in the atmosphere of the Great Patriotic War.
