Rezhevsky Historical Museum
About museum
Rezhevsky Historical Museum welcomes visitors in an old building erected in 1847 for the parish school at the Epiphany Church. The pioneers of museum work collected materials on the history of the Rezhevsky District, antiquities, carried out repairs to the building and designed exhibitions. In 1995 the museum opened with an exhibition timed to the anniversary Victory Day that tells about Rezhev residents during the Great Patriotic War. Times changed and so did the museum: over 30 years of operation it changed its name from a local history museum to a historical museum and amassed many items worthy of attention. The museum's collections carefully preserve antiques from the late 19th — early 20th centuries, such as clay pottery, household items, furniture, clothing and tools. Exhibitions and displays feature unique mineralogical specimens — including a giant quartz crystal weighing 120 kilograms and the 'Shaitansky perelivt', the only deposit of which is in the Rezhevsky District. The paleontology collection ranges from a stone axe to mammoth teeth and tusks. Having a huge collection of nails in its holdings, in 2015 the museum launched the 'Nail Museum' project; today visitors can learn the history of the nail, its varieties, dare to stand on nails and drive a nail. And, of course, get acquainted with the outstanding 'nails of the program' in each hall. Rezhevsky Historical Museum awaits guests — and no nails!
