Flat Tower
About museum
The Pskov Flat Tower lies just north of the High Tower, which stands on the opposite bank of the Pskova River. According to the First Pskov Chronicle, they were built in 1500. The Flat Tower has a squat form and was mentioned in ancient texts as 'a beacon at the mouth of the Pskova.' It completes the fortress wall that stretches from Kutekroma to the river mouth. In 1537–1538 a wooden wall with two arches was built between the towers. During the Soviet period several attempts were made to restore the Flat Tower, but its doors remained closed to visitors. Between 2017 and 2020 the tower was fully restored with the support of the Russian Ministry of Culture and the World Bank. In June 2021 the tower was opened to visitors and now houses the exhibition 'Ribbon of the History of the Pskov Land', dedicated to the history of restoring Pskov's monuments.
