Park of Culture and Recreation, Michurinsk
About museum
In 1847 Emperor Nicholas I set aside a site for the creation of a city garden in the town of Kozlov (now Michurinsk). June 27, 1847 can be considered the park's founding date. During the Civil War Kozlov became a frontline town, and most cultural and educational institutions were closed. But in the spring of 1920 the townspeople once again came to their beloved park. During the Great Patriotic War the park was outfitted with blackout camouflage. During the war most of the park's employees were either at the front or serving in the rear. In 1945, following the Victory, the park began to revive. In 1969 the young singer Alla Pugacheva made her debut here, and performers from various Russian theaters appeared on the summer theater's stage. In 1995 the park was admitted to the Association of Parks and Gardens of Russia. Today the park is a unique monument of garden and park art and of national history.
