People's Museum of Grachevsky District
About museum
Knowledge, pride and careful preservation of the cultural heritage of our beautiful region — this is the motto of everyone who deeply understands their connection to the past and their personal responsibility to future generations. The idea of creating the museum belonged to Ekaterina Nikolaevna Lavrentyeva, a history teacher at Tallinn Secondary School. A 300 sq. m. premises were allocated for its implementation. An initiative group of 11 people was formed, headed by the second secretary of the district party committee, V. Ya. Egorov. The museum began its activities in the summer of 1987. Artists were involved in arranging the halls, and people began to bring and deliver antique items that had long been stored in attics and chests. The museum was given the name “People's” in 1989. The museum halls are often used for lessons on local history, presentations and quizzes. The museum staff regularly participate in regional and international exhibitions, visit villages and receive donations.
