Solzavod Museum-Reserve
About museum
In the 1980s, on the basis of the 19th-century Ust-Borovsky saltworks, the Solzavod Museum-Reserve was established (until recently — the Museum of Salt History). It was the first factory-museum in Russia, built in 1878 by the merchant A. V. Ryazantsev. The museum buildings reflect the five-hundred-year-old technology of boiling the famous 'Permyanka' salt and are monuments of 19th-century industrial architecture. The Ust-Borovsky plant continued to operate almost unchanged until January 1, 1972, when the decision was made to create a museum complex. Today the Solzavod Museum-Reserve continues to develop; guided tours are offered and new programs are being developed. We invite everyone to visit our museum and learn more about the history of 'Permyanka' salt production.
