Museum of Forgotten Music
About museum
The museum opened in Voronezh in 2007 and is located in the City Palace of Culture (the former House of Culture of the Machine Builders). The museum's history began with the hobby of its founder and longtime director Sergey Plotnikov: crafting antique musical instruments. At first a workshop was established, and later a museum was created on its basis.
\r\n
\r\nCurrently the museum's collection comprises more than 50 examples of historical musical instruments from various countries and eras, dating back to the 11th century; some of these instruments are considered extinct, while others are obsolete and are hardly used.
\r\n
\r\nSome exhibits were found in different parts of the country, and some rare instruments were donated to the museum. All of them have been carefully restored. Another part of the unusual exhibition consists of instruments made according to old plans and drawings, reconstructed from books and even from works of art.
\r\n
\r\nTours are conducted in the form of lecture-concerts. Visitors are given the opportunity to hear the sounds of rare, forgotten and even curious musical instruments. For those interested, a master class on playing and making simple folk instruments is offered.
