N.A. Durova Museum-Estate
About museum
In 1993 the world's only museum-estate dedicated to the legendary woman officer Nadezhda Durova was opened. It was in this house that the famous 'Notes of a Cavalry Maiden' were written; these received high praise from A. S. Pushkin and became the basis for Eldar Ryazanov's film 'Hussar Ballad'. The prototype of the film's main heroine was Nadezhda Andreyevna herself. The museum is located in the memorial house and presents the history of the life of the Russian amazon — from childhood in a cavalry regiment to life in Yelabuga. The museum's halls tell of N. A. Durova's military service, her literary activity, and her final years. The estate, with reconstructed outbuildings, recreates the atmosphere of the 19th century. This cultural heritage site is of federal significance.
