A. N. Beketov House-Museum
About museum
The A. N. Beketov House-Museum is located in the western part of Alushta. The museum was opened on November 5, 1987. It is a memorial building of distinctive architecture with elements of the Moorish style, built to A. N. Beketov's design in 1896 for the family's summer recreation on the seashore near Alushta.
The house of the academician, architect and artist A. N. Beketov (1862–1941) has been preserved in its original condition and stands on the grounds of the old Beketov estate, founded in 1865 by his father, the prominent chemist, professor and academician N. N. Beketov. The museum preserves not only the memory of the outstanding architect and his ancient lineage, the Beketov-Alchevsky family, known in Russia since the 16th century, but also the living traditions of the old dacha associated with music, poetry, painting and family celebrations. An antique Schroder piano from 1917, St. Petersburg, recalls the musical evenings at the Beketov-Alchevsky house, where the voice of the distinguished tenor Ivan Alchevsky, a soloist at opera houses in Russia and Europe, could be heard, along with the music and romances of the composer and teacher Grigory Alchevsky.
